SOUTH-WEST residents can enjoy a free return train trip to Melbourne and Geelong for New Year’s Eve fireworks and celebrations.
The annual freebie from the state government applies to the last passenger train on the Warrnambool line this evening and the first service from Melbourne tomorrow morning.
V/Line confirmed the offer applied for all passengers on these services, despite an announcement yesterday by Public Transport Minister Jacinta Allan’s office that free travel on all modes of public transport across the state applied for services from 6pm on New Year’s Eve.
“Providing free public transport for Victorians on New Year’s Eve gives people the opportunity to leave the car at home and go out and celebrate,” she said.
“Victorian towns are hosting some spectacular New Year’s Eve events and we want to ensure that everyone enjoys a great night.”
Tonight’s train leaves Warrnambool at 5.14pm and the first train from Melbourne tomorrow leaves at 8am.
