The Fireworks Sunraysia owner (pictured yesterday) has been lighting up Mildura on New Year’s Eve for more than 15 years.

Tonight, he and his team will put on two displays – one at 9.40pm and one as the clock strikes midnight.

“New Year’s Eve is one of the best displays we do,” Mr Shurey said.

“It’s such an adrenaline rush.

“The roar of the crowd at the end makes it all worth it – the hours sitting here planning and designing it.”

Planning for the new year begins much earlier for Mr Shurey than most.

In September, he and his wife travel to Sydney for an annual fireworks conference.

“They put on a big show and we can have a look and put a tick on the ones we like,” he said.

“We go by the crowd: if there’s something new, something different, the crowd will give lots of oohs and aahs.”
