THE Tasmanian Roar will be looking to farewell English international recruit Heather Knight in style over the next three days as Tasmania’s women face off against the South Australian Scorpions.
Knight will play the two T20s and the 50-over match against the Scorpions this week before returning home to the UK.
Coach Julia Price yesterday described her group as one that was continuing to grow in confidence, with its recent 50-over one-day win against New South Wales following on from its 20-over triumphs against fellow powerhouses Victoria and Queensland.
“The girls have learnt a lot from that in how to build partnerships and how to work together and their allround game was fantastic [against NSW],” Price said.
“There is that potential to have complacency, but I don’t think the girls are really just there at the moment, I just think they are just really happy with how they are performing at this stage.”
Price said Cricket Tasmania were in discussions with Knight, who has been a powerful influence at the top of the order for the Roar, about a possible return next summer.
Knight said she believed she had become a better player in her time in the state, and if she were to return to Australia, she would find it hard to play anywhere else.
The Roar and Scorpions are close on both ladders, with the South Australians fourth (4-4) to the Tasmanians fifth (3-5) in the T20s and fourth (2-2) to the Roar’s seventh (1-3) in the 50-over league.
Celeste Raack is back in the squad for New Zealand’s Amy Satterthwaite, who will miss this round of matches due to domestic cricket back home.
The two teams will play a T20 the Adelaide Oval today as part of a double-header to the Strikers-Hurricanes match, before playing a 50-over match tomorrow and a T20 on Friday at the Adelaide Oval No. 2.
