UPDATE: wheel and gift results from Devonport Carnival

MEN’S WHEEL:South Australian Rohan Wright has upstage more fancied rivals to take out the TG and JM Matthews Devonport Wheel Race. Wright won from Elya Hashimoto and Achim Burkart.

MEN’S GIFT:18-year-old Jacob Despard won his 8th TAL race by winning the 2014 Men’s Gift at the Devonport Carnival. The Hobart-based runner beat Brady Lehmann and Jarrod Gilroy.

WOMEN’S GIFT:Samantha Lind has takenout the 2014 Devonport Women’s Gift just in front of Coastal stars Morgan Gaffney and Abbey Chapman.

WOMEN’S WHEEL WINNER -Annette Edmonson pipped local world champion Amy Cure to take out the Cathy and Peter Broun Women’s Wheel Race, with Kimberley Wells in third.

MILE WINNER -Ulverstone star Kale Adams has taken out the Mile at the Devonport Carnival. Adams beat home Deon Kenzie and Gerard Lowry.

EARLIER:THE weather has been kind so far to Devonport carnival organisers, with the program well underway at Devonport Oval.

Action at the Devonport carnival is well underway, with the weather improving since yesterday.

Yesterday’s program was abandoned due to persistent rain.

The main events on tonight’s program will begin at begin after 6pm, with the official opening at 6.40pm and the woodchopping and beep test to follow.

An action-packed half an hour will follow from about 8pm, when the mile, men’s and women’s wheel races, 400m men’s and women’s gift finals, and the 70m sprint finals are staged.
